Balance matters more than size

Bellava’s injectors work to what is often called the Golden Ratio: an upper lip holding roughly two-thirds of the volume of the lower one. Staying close to it is what keeps a lip from looking overfilled, above all from the side. The same care corrects a mismatch between upper and lower lip, so symmetry improves without the mouth looking worked on. How the healing goes

Treatment takes 15 to 30 minutes, and the lips look fuller as soon as it is finished. Over the first three days expect swelling, tenderness, a feeling of tightness and perhaps some bruising. Between days four and seven the swelling goes down and the lips start to feel soft again, with only mild tenderness left. By the two-week mark they have fully settled into their final shape.

While they heal, drink plenty of water, keep the lips clean with a light coat of gentle balm, and follow whatever personal instructions your injector gives you. Hold off on anything that sends extra blood to the face, from a hard workout to strong heat or sun, and on lip products that might irritate the injection points.

A Saturday appointment
