Pound Ridge sits at the eastern edge of Westchester, on the Connecticut line, and its rocky, uneven ground has always made major highways and railroads hard to build there, which is much of why it has stayed so rural. What it does have is a close tie to its western neighbour: the town is part of the Bedford Central School District, and its older students attend the Fox Lane campus in Bedford. Before you request a consultation

There is no online booking for a surgical consultation at Bellava. You send a request through the website, or call or text, and Natalie Palais, the patient coordinator, gets back to you to set a time. It helps to have a few things ready:

• What bothers you, in your own words. You do not need the name of a procedure. Dr. Kim works from what you describe and what he sees.
• Your medications and supplements. Aspirin, anti-inflammatories and some supplements raise the risk of bleeding during surgery, and you may be asked to pause them.
• Whether you smoke. Smoking slows healing, so you will be asked to stop for several weeks before an operation.
• Your plans. More children, or a weight you are still working towards, change what body and breast surgery can sensibly achieve and when.
• The dates you cannot be away. Recovery differs widely from one procedure to the next, and it is easier to plan around it from the start.

The consultation itself

It is free, private and one-to-one. Chang Soo Kim, MD, examines you, explains what would and would not help, and recommends a procedure or tells you honestly that surgery is not the answer. He is a Yale School of Medicine graduate, trained in plastic surgery at Yale–New Haven Hospital, certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. If you go ahead, the operation takes place in Bellava’s own Joint Commission–accredited suite.

What Pound Ridge patients come in for
