Is it right for your skin?

Microneedling suits most people, whichever skin type or ethnicity they have. It is used for fine lines and wrinkles, a dull or uneven complexion, scars from acne, injury or surgery, stretch marks, large pores, sun spots and skin that has begun to sag. Three groups need more care:

The first two weeks

• Treatment day: a numbing cream, then 30 to 60 minutes of light stamping passes with the pen, finished with a calming serum or mask.
• The next 12 to 48 hours: the skin looks red.
• The rest of the week: dryness and flaking as older skin sheds; let it come away by itself rather than picking at it.
• Around two weeks: the first gains in firmness and smoothness can often be felt, and new collagen keeps forming for months.

During healing, go without makeup, exfoliating products and hot showers for several days, stay out of direct sun for at least 48 hours, and leave laser treatments, chemical peels and waxing aside.

Building a course

To stimulate as much collagen as possible while keeping each session comfortable, Bellava suggests three to six treatments, four to six weeks apart, followed by maintenance every six to twelve months. A session can be paired with serums or hyaluronic acid, with PRP made from your own blood, or with Vivace, which combines the needling with radiofrequency energy, and the team also advises on skincare, sun protection and nutrition between visits.
