Your skin does the repairing

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, works by prompting the skin to heal. Fine sterile needles make microscopic channels in its surface, and the body answers by producing new collagen and elastin, which firm and smooth the skin from within. That new collagen keeps forming for months after each session, so the improvement builds gradually rather than appearing overnight.

Depth is what makes it safe and effective. Bellava’s devices adjust from 0.25 mm to 2.5 mm, so each area of skin can be treated at the depth that suits it.

What it is used for

  • Acne scars and surgical scars
  • Fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet
  • Enlarged pores
  • Sun damage, discoloration and uneven tone
  • Stretch marks, particularly after pregnancy
  • Loosening skin around the eyes, mouth and jawline

The face is the usual focus, but the neck, chest, hands, arms, abdomen, buttocks and thighs can be treated too.

Three ways to strengthen it

The fresh channels let what is applied straight afterwards sink deeper than it otherwise would, so Bellava can pair microneedling with nourishing serums or hyaluronic acid, or with PRP — platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood — for stronger collagen renewal. Vivace, which combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy, is also offered. Bellava’s licensed medical estheticians, Semira Crecco-Donnelly and Natalina McEwan, perform all three.

Treatment day, and the two days after

After a skin analysis, a numbing cream goes on so that the treatment itself is comfortable; most patients feel little or nothing. The device then moves across the skin in light stamping passes for 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area, and a soothing serum or mask ends the visit. Expect redness for 12 to 48 hours, then a few days of dryness and flaking as old skin sheds.

That timing suits the practice’s hours. Bellava is open until 7 pm on Thursdays, and from the Bedford Hills office you are back in Katonah within about three minutes without traffic, so an evening appointment leaves the weekend for the pinkness to fade.

A course, not a one-off

For the most collagen with comfortable sessions, Bellava suggests three to six treatments four to six weeks apart, then maintenance every six to twelve months. The first changes are often felt within two weeks.

Questions from Katonah

Is it right for every skin? For most skin types, yes, though very sensitive skin may not tolerate the deepest settings. People prone to keloid scars, or with very active acne or certain skin disorders, may not be candidates.

What should I avoid afterwards? Direct sun for at least 48 hours, plus makeup, exfoliating products and hot showers for several days. Stick to the gentle cleanser and moisturizer the staff recommend, and do not pick at flaking skin.

Can it be combined with Botox or filler? Yes. Microneedling can be planned with Bellava’s injectors so skin quality and lines are treated together.
