Every step a few minutes from home

For a woman in Katonah, the whole of a breast augmentation at Bellava happens close by: the consultation, the operation in our Joint Commission–accredited surgical suite, and each check-up afterwards. We are at 182 Route 117 Bypass Road in Bedford Hills, about a mile and a quarter from the centre of Katonah by Bedford Road and Route 117 — three minutes or so without traffic.

Who places the implants

Dr. Chang Soo Kim graduated from the Yale School of Medicine, trained in plastic surgery at Yale–New Haven Hospital and is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He places implants through one of three discreet openings — at the edge of the areola, in the fold beneath the breast or under the arm — and sets them either above or below the chest muscle. Keeping scars small and out of sight guides which route he picks for you.

Surgery day, in order

  • Before you go in. Dr. Kim walks through your plan with you once more, marks where the incisions will be and answers whatever is still on your mind.
  • In the suite. The surgical team guides you through anesthesia and looks after you throughout the operation.
  • Heading home. A friend or partner drives you back to Katonah. Loose, comfortable clothing makes that part easier.
  • The days that follow. Bellava’s guidance is that everyday activities usually resume within roughly a week, with light exercise once two to three weeks have passed and the incisions are healing.

A result designed to last

A good augmentation should move, sit and change with time much as your own breasts would, and that comes from matching the implant to your frame and your breast anatomy rather than to a number. The implants Dr. Kim uses are designed to keep the risk of rippling low. On average, an augmentation holds its shape for ten years or more, but an implant may need replacing at some point, and it is better to know that before you start than after.

If you run, ride or chase small children, say so at the consultation: the plan includes getting you safely back to exercise and sport without needless delay.

Katonah patients ask

What are the risks? Temporary swelling, bruising and changes in sensation are common early on. Scarring usually fades. Implant-specific problems include rupture, capsular contracture and shifting, and infection or slow wound healing are rare with proper care. Dr. Kim goes through each with you.

Could I have a tummy tuck at the same time? Often, yes. Breast augmentation with a tummy tuck is a combination Bellava patients ask for frequently, and doing both in one operation means one recovery. Whether it is safe for you is Dr. Kim’s decision after he reviews your health history.

Do I keep my own breast tissue? Yes. The implant goes in through a small incision without removing any of your own tissue.

How do I begin? With a free, private consultation. Look through Dr. Kim’s results and the main breast augmentation page beforehand if you like.
