BOTOX®

BOTOX® is the world’s most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment, with millions opting for smoother faces and fewer fine lines every year. Botox has been tested for efficacy and safety for more time than Ibuprofen. This FDA-approved cosmetic treatment is designed to temporarily improve moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults by temporarily blocking the muscles that cause facial expressions.

Although you can’t avoid stress and age, you can avoid the wrinkles and lines that come with them. BOTOX® is the ultimate solution to turn back the clock.

BOTOX® can:

  • Promote younger-looking, smoother skin
  • Serve as an anti-aging solution for both women and men
  • Minimize wrinkles
  • Provide a subtle lift, helping you look younger and refreshed
  • Be used for pain management
  • Help treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Involve little to no extended recovery time or side effects

BOTOX® uses a natural protein called botulinum toxin. This protein is introduced to the body to relax muscles that cause unsightly wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, mouth, and cheeks. Undergoing a BOTOX® treatment involves reducing wrinkles and the reason they happen. For hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), BOTOX® works by blocking the signals that cause the glands to produce sweat. Botox can also treat neck spasms, sweating, overactive bladder, and a lazy eye, and Botox shots may also prevent migraine headaches.

The ingredient in Botox injections is made from the toxin that causes a type of food poisoning called botulism. However, the forms of purified botulinum toxins used by licensed healthcare providers meet medical standards. The FDA approved these standards. However, if not used correctly, bacteria toxins can be harmful.

Some risks of Botox can include the following:

  • Pain and swelling at the injection site
  • Headache,
  • Droopy eyelids,
  • Crooked eyebrows,
  • Crocked smile,
  • Watery or dry eyes,
  • Infection at the injection site.

Rarely does Botox spread to part of the body where it isn’t injected. Call your healthcare provider if you have any of these side effects.

Botox FAQ

Why do I get frown lines and crow’s feet?

Frown lines and crow’s feet are types of wrinkles that commonly develop on the face due to the following factors:

1. Aging: As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and becomes thinner. This happens because our body’s production of collagen and elastin—two proteins that help our skin stay plump, firm, and smooth—slows down.

2. Sun exposure: Long-term exposure to the sun can lead to premature skin aging, or photoaging. The ultraviolet (UV) light damages the fibers in the skin called elastin, causing the skin to sag, stretch, and lose its ability to bounce back after stretching.

3. Repetitive facial expressions and movements: Over time, repetitive facial movements like frowning, squinting, or smiling can lead to fine lines and wrinkles. When you use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. And as skin ages, it loses its flexibility and is no longer able to spring back in place, leading to permanent grooves.

4. Smoking: Nicotine in cigarettes narrows the blood vessels in the outer layers of your skin, impairing blood flow to your skin. With less blood flow, your skin doesn’t get as much oxygen and important nutrients. Additionally, many of the over 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke damage collagen and elastin.

5. Poor nutrition and dehydration: A lack of vital nutrients and hydration can negatively affect the skin’s elasticity and overall health, contributing to the formation of wrinkles.

6. Sleep positions: Sleeping in certain positions may lead to ‘sleep lines’. Sleeping on your side can cause wrinkles on cheeks and chin, while sleeping face-down gives you a furrowed brow.

To reduce these effects, consider adopting healthy lifestyle habits like wearing sunscreen, not smoking, staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet, and getting enough sleep. Alternatively, wrinkles and facial lines can be reduced with Botox & dermal fillers to help you give you your youthful appearance again.
