Most of the recovery from a mommy makeover happens at home, and the person who makes it work is usually not the patient. A partner, a parent or a close friend will be the one driving, lifting, fetching and keeping an eye on things while you heal, so this page is written for them as much as for you. The operation is carried out by Dr. Chang Soo Kim at Bellava, 182 Route 117 Bypass Road in Bedford Hills. From New Castle Town Hall it is about 14 minutes without traffic up the Saw Mill River Parkway, so every trip your helper makes is a short one.
On the day
- Collection. A mommy makeover is outpatient. You arrive, have the operation in Bellava’s Joint Commission–accredited suite and leave the same day, which means someone has to be there to take you home.
- What you bring home. Gauze dressings on each surgical site, a support bra or compression garment, and written instructions for any drains Dr. Kim has placed.
- The first night or two. Bellava’s tummy tuck guidance asks that a responsible adult stays with the patient for the first 24 to 48 hours.
The first fortnight
- Moving about. After the tummy tuck, the patient keeps slightly bent at the waist for roughly a week, standing and sitting, while the muscle repair beneath settles. Short walks help.
- A visit for the drains. Where drains are used, they come out at the office seven to ten days after surgery. The patient will not be driving to it.
- The car keys. Dr. Kim’s usual guidance puts driving at about two weeks. Until then the school runs and the errands belong to the helper.
Weeks three to six
- Carrying. Heavy lifting and strenuous effort wait at least six weeks. If a toddler at home still wants carrying, the helper does the carrying.
- Arms and chest. If an augmentation was included, push-ups, presses and weights wait six to eight weeks at the least.
- The garment. The compression garment from the tummy tuck stays on for around six weeks.
Depending on what was combined, recovery as a whole runs from two to six weeks, and the result keeps refining for several months.

New Castle patients ask
What does a mommy makeover usually combine? A tummy tuck, a breast lift or augmentation, and liposuction, with other procedures added where they would help.
Who is it suited to? Women who have finished having children, are healthy and hold a stable weight, and whose loose skin, separated muscles, changed breasts or stubborn fat have not answered to diet and exercise.
How is a consultation arranged? By request, not online booking. Use the Request a Consultation button, or call or text; Bellava’s patient coordinator calls you back. The consultation is free, and financing is available. See the main mommy makeover page first.
