Breast augmentation, nine minutes up the road

Most of what a breast augmentation asks of you happens after the operation, not during it. That is where living in Mount Kisco helps. Our surgical suite at 182 Route 117 Bypass Road in Bedford Hills is roughly four miles from the village — around nine minutes without traffic by the Saw Mill River Parkway and Route 117 — so the ride home, the check-ups and any question that comes up in the first weeks never turn into a trip.

Who performs your surgery

Every augmentation at Bellava is planned and performed by Dr. Chang Soo Kim. He trained at the Yale School of Medicine and in Yale–New Haven Hospital’s plastic surgery residency, and holds certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery. His aim with breasts is the one he brings to every operation: a result in proportion to your frame that looks like your own body, not an announcement. The operation takes place in Bellava’s own Joint Commission–accredited suite.

Getting ready, from a Mount Kisco kitchen table

Bellava’s preparation list is short, and almost all of it can be done in the days before surgery:

  • Line up a driver for the trip to Bedford Hills and back. From Mount Kisco the round trip is a short one.
  • Follow the fasting instructions you are given for the hours before surgery.
  • Stop smoking, and pause any medications Dr. Kim asks you to, so that you heal well.
  • Dress for the ride home in something loose and comfortable.
  • Set up a recovery corner at home with what you will need within arm’s reach.

The weeks after surgery

Bellava’s own guidance is that most patients are back to their regular routine within about a week, and to light exercise after two to three weeks, as the incisions heal and the swelling goes down. Your own timeline is set by Dr. Kim at your follow-up visits, not by a calendar, and depends on how your surgery was done.

Some changes are normal early on, and the practice lists them plainly: temporary swelling, bruising and altered sensation. Being close by means that if something does not look right to you, you can be seen quickly rather than describing it over the phone from far away.

Scars are kept small and placed where they are easy to hide — under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit — and they usually fade with time.

Mount Kisco patients ask

When can I go back to work? Most patients are back to their usual activities within about a week; Dr. Kim will tell you what is sensible for your job and your surgery.

Will I keep my own breast tissue? Yes. An implant is placed above or below the chest muscle; none of your own tissue is removed to make room for it.

What if I want a lift as well? If your breasts have lost shape after pregnancy or weight loss, a breast lift or a mommy makeover may suit you better, or as well. Dr. Kim will say which at a free consultation.

Can I see results first? Yes — browse Dr. Kim’s before and after gallery, and read more on our main breast augmentation page.
