Collagen Induction Therapy

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) in Bedford Hills, NY

A beautiful appearance is often equated with glowing, luminous skin. However, our skin takes a beating over the years—from sun damage, age spots, and acne—to fine lines and wrinkles. With all this abuse, it’s no wonder a soft, glowing complexion is difficulty to achieve with skin products alone.

At Bellava’s Westchester cosmetic surgery center, we are excited to bring you Microneedling with Micropen, one of the latest nonsurgical innovations available in skin care today. Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT), microneedling rejuvenates the skin’s appearance by increasing the production of collagen and elastin. This noninvasive treatment is highly effective in reducing fine lines and wrinkles AND improving overall tone, texture and color. What’s more, MicroPen microneedling creates a more porous skin surface so that topical gels, creams and serums can be absorbed more effectively, therefore improving their effectiveness.

Combine Microneedling with PRP or Growth Factors

Carried out under the supervision of our board-certified plastic surgeon C.S. Kim, MD, MicroPen microneedling can also be combined with a liquid treatment comprised of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), or Growth Factors. Note, the PRP is generally the most optimally effective since it is made up of your own plasma. Similar to the “Vampire Facelift,” this is a highly effective combo because the skin can absorb more of these growth factors as a result of the microneedling treatment. The result? You’ll see an even greater improvement in skin texture and tone, and a larger reduction of wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars and dark spots.

Microneedling FAQs

How does Microneedling work?

During the micro-needling procedure, which takes about 15-20 minutes, a thick layer of topical gel is applied to the skin. Then the Micropen treatment begins. You’ll feel a gentle pressing as the pen glides across the treatment area. (The Micropen has known advantages such as less drag than the Dermapen.)

The MicroPen works by creating tiny micro-injuries to the skin, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. Post-treatment, the skin begins its natural repair process: a new layer of outer skin forms, creating a softer appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Is there downtime?

You’ll experience some redness post-treatment. In general, patients have varying degrees of redness – from 2-4 days. Improvement to the skin will take place over the course of several weeks, and can improve up to 6 months.

For optimal results, we recommend a series of 3-5 MicroPen treatments, spaced approximately 6-8 weeks apart.
