Dr. Lyons’ “Weekend Lift”
Do you look in the mirror and feel like the person staring back at you looks older than the person you feel like on the inside? If so, the Mini Facelift, also known as Dr. Lyon’s Weekend Lift, can take years off your face, restoring a smoother, more youthful appearance. A
minimally invasive procedure, the Mini Facelift is prized for getting rid of wrinkles, lifting the jowls and redefining the chin and neck area. At Bellava, renowned Westchester, NY, plastic surgeon Dr. James R. Lyons, MD, who has performed over 3,000 facelifts, specializes in the Mini Facelift, which he performs using local (or general) anesthesia in our state-of-the-art, Joint-Commission-accredited surgical suite.
Here’s what one of Dr. Lyons’ recent Mini Facelift patients had to say: “When I decided I needed to look as young as I feel, Dr. Lyons made it a reality. Although I will never look 20 again, I certainly feel as good today as back then. I decided to have a weekend facelift and the decision was the best one I’ve made in a long time. It was easy, painless and the results AMAZING. I am so thankful to the professional, courteous staff and of course to the artist who gave me back my confidence “Dr. Lyons”. He is an amazing surgeon with a dedication to his profession, making people feel good about themselves. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I would recommend you, your staff and facility to anyone.” – CR (11/7/13)
How Does a Mini Facelift Differ From a Full Facelift?
The Mini Facelift addresses the mid to lower portion of the face and involves using smaller incisions than a full facelift. It is ideal for patients, often in their 40s, 50s or even 60s, who have signs of aging in the mid to lower face but not an extremely large amount of sagging skin in the jaw and/or neck area. In some cases the Mini Facelift is performed with SlimLipo laser liposuction of the neck for beautiful, overall results.
During the Mini Facelift procedure, which takes approximately 2 hours, Dr. Lyons makes a short incision behind each ear. He then removes the excess skin and fat, tightens muscle and redrapes the overlying skin to smooth out wrinkles, redefine the jawline and tighten the neck area. Bruising and swelling are extremely minimal and there is virtually no pain. The results are immediate and simply amazing: a younger, natural-looking –as opposed to “tight” –appearance is restored.
Recovery: Patients usually wear a bandage for 24 hours and sutures are removed after about seven days. Remarkably, Mini Facelift patients are usually back to most aspects of daily life within 2-3 days, hence the term Dr. Lyons’ Weekend Lift.
• Minimally invasive
• Local anesthesia
• Minimal downtime
• Natural rather than “pulled-looking”
• Long-lasting results
Choosing the Right Doctor For A Mini Facelift
Unfortunately, the enormous popularity of procedures like the Lifestyle Lift have created a marketplace where doctors with wildly different degrees of experience claim to be highly experienced at performing Mini Facelifts and other cosmetic procedures. As a consumer, it’s important for you to be aware that many doctors who claim to be “experts” do not necessarily have a solid background in aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery–or perhaps–have only recently graduated from medical school.
Dr. Lyons is a highly respected Westchester, NY, plastic surgeon who has carried out over 3,000 facelifts during his 25-plus year medical career. A Diplomat of The American Board of Plastic Surgery, author The Brown Fat Revolution and a former clinical instructor in the Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Yale University, he possesses a highly regarded reputation in relation to the Mini Facelift.
Says Dr. Lyons: “In the years since my residency at Georgetown University, no other aesthetic operation has been modified as much as the facelift. In 1982, the classic “skin only” pull was used and the results achieved the “look” of the yesteryear facelift: a tight, less wrinkled face. However, no curves or volume of youth was created. In fact, they were flattened. Through the years this technique has been abandoned and artistically modified. My approach is an artistic, beautifying, and age-defying method, the result of which brings a smile to my face when I remove the post-op dressing. Why is this one of my favorite operations? Because it really works! With the customized selection of techniques the new facelift, supplemented with nonsurgical techniques, will achieve 100% patient satisfaction. And at the end of my day, that is my goal!”
A complimentary private consultation with Dr. Lyons is the best way to determine if a Mini Facelift is right for you. During your consultation, he will carefully evaluate your overall goals and help develop a treatment plan to best meet your needs. Three RX’s For Summer Skin: Photofacials (IPL), VI Peel, HydrafacialMonday, August 26, 2013
Soaking up the warm rays of summer is an activity many of us look forward to all year long. But after three months of fun in the sun, your skin may not look as young and healthy as you would like. Even if you have been religious about wearing a good sunscreen product with an SPF of 15 or higher, it’s difficult to escape at least some minimal sun damage by season’s end.
Sun and Premature Aging
Excess sun exposure is proven to cause premature aging. Overtime the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) light damages the fibers in the skin called elastin. When these fibers break down, the skin starts to stretch and lose its elastin. This results in sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles, as well as dryness and roughness.
Sun and Hyperpigmentation:
The sun’s ultra-violet rays increase the production of melanin (released by cell’s called melanocytes) in the skin. While melanin is a key defense against sun exposure (it protects the skin from DNA photodamage), increased melanin also leads to the appearance of unattractive brown spots These dark patches on the skin are called solar lentigenes, hyperpigmentation, or less formally, sun or age spots. While these discolorations are not cancerous and don’t cause negative effects on your skin health–they create uneven skin tone and make your skin look less bright and dewy–in other words, more aged.
Sun and Rosacea
Excess sun exposure (as well as humid, warm temperatures) is also the leading cause of rosacea, a chronic, inflammatory skin condition. Rosacea causes facial redness, broken capillaries and sometimes pus-filled pustules or bumps. According to the National Rosacea Society, over 16 million Americans suffer from rosacea, which often worsens during the summer months.
Now that the fleeting days of summer are almost over, it’s the perfect time to tackle any skin issues that have arisen. Listed below are three of the most sought after aesthetic skin treatments—Photofacial (IPL), VI Peel and Hydrafacial. Each of these can correct different types of sun damage and even help reverse the skin’s aging process.
Photofacial, or IPL, is a comprehensive treatment using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to effectively treat a wide range of skin imperfections associated with sun damage and skin aging. These include: brown spots (age spots), vascularity (redness) associated with rosacea, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores and rough skin. Photofacials work by focusing a beam of light to a target in the skin such as enlarged vessels and irregular pigmentation. The enlarged vessels and irregularities are removed without scarring or damage to the treated or surrounding area. What’s more, research shows that photofacial treatments can actually help reverse the skin’s aging process by rebuilding collagen and elastin. Photofacials may protect against skin cancer. For optimal skin rejuvenation results, a series of 5 photofacial treatments carried out over the course of several months is recommended. Go here to read more about the latest research on photofacials.
Developed by Dr. Abdala Kalil, a top LA doctor in aesthetic medicine, the VI Peel is an excellent summer skin RX treatment. The VI peel contains a synergistic blend of powerful ingredients including vitamin C and salicylic acid. It improves the tone, texture and clarity of skin; reduces or eliminates age spots, freckles, and hyper-pigmentation, including melasma; soften fine lines and wrinkles; clears acne skin conditions; reduce or eliminate acne scars; and stimulate the production of collagen, for firmer, more youthful skin. After a VI Peel treatment, you’ll experience radiant younger looking skin in as little as 7 days. For optimal results, a series of 2 peels is recommended. If you prefer less peeling than that associated with the VI Peel, you can try a lighter Glycolic Peel instead. A series of 4-6 glycolic peels carried out over the course of 4-6 weeks will achieve best results. A glycolic peel series can be alternated with Photofacials [see below], for spectacular anti-aging/skin rejuvenation results.
Dried out summer skin? Hydrafacial by Edge is the perfect treatment for skin dryness. This soothing, moisturizing treatment also improves the appearance of fine lines; wrinkles congested or enlarged pores, acne, hyperpigmentation and brown spots. Hydrafacial is the only hydradermabrasion procedure that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection including a light glycolic peel (7%) all in one treatment. You’ll be amazed by how clear and glowing your skin is after just one treatment.

Flatten Your Abdomen In Westchester:The Best Surgical and Nonsurgical Solutions such as Tummy Tuck, SlimLipo and CoolSculptingMonday, July 22, 2013
Do you suffer from tummy woes? We’re not talking about curing an upset stomach but rather getting rid of belly fat and/or loose skin around your abdomen. You know, that muffin top or spare tire that can plague both men and women despite diet and exercise.
For women, tummy woes often hit after pregnancy, when your body simply doesn’t bounce back after baby. Or during perimenopause and menopause when most every woman gains a bit more girth in their midsection due to hormonal changes. Guys experience the middle-aged spread, too, as their metabolism slows with age.
This extra midsection padding is often tough to get ride of since the level of hormones that maintain muscle mass in both men and women tends to drop off progressively during one’s thirties, forties and fifties. At the same time people tend to be less physically active as they age, causing muscles to shrink due to decreased use, also making weight gain more likely.
If you want a firm, flat tummy but can’t seem to get it on your own, there are several highly effective surgical and nonsurgical options available today. Here’s a rundown on the most popular cosmetic procedures that can help you get those fab abs you’ve been dreaming of.
Full Tummy Tuck versus Mini Tummy Tuck
(Full Abdominoplasty versus Mini Abdominoplasty)
While the goal of a full tummy tuck and a mini tummy tuck is the same–that is, to create a tighter, flatter and smoother abdominal profile–they are different procedures used to treat specific issues.
A full tummy tuck is used to treat patients who were formerly very overweight, or, women whose abdominal skin has been stretched out and/or muscle has been weakened or separated. (Muscle separation of the rectus muscle, also known as diastasis, often occurs after pregnancy.)
During a full tummy tuck procedure, which is performed under general anesthesia, the plastic surgeon separates the navel from the rest of the tissue and abdominal wall and pulls the muscles underneath into a tighter position. The flap is stretched down, and excess tissue is removed. With a full abdominoplasty, there will be a scar that extends across the lower abdomen, typically extending from hip to hip. Belly button restoration is sometimes required. Recovery usually lasts between 4-6 weeks.
In patients where the abdominal wall does not protrude that significantly and fat deposits exist only in the region below the belly button, a mini tummy tuck can be performed. Through a single, short incision at or above the pubic area that stretches a few inches across the lower abdomen, the plastic surgeon removes excess skin, and often uses a fat-removal procedure such as SlimLipo liposuction to further contour the area. The mini tummy tuck in a scar above the pubic bone that is typically shorter/smaller than a scar from a full tummy tuck. The mini tummy tuck can be accomplished under general or local anesthesia. Recovery usually lasts 1-3 weeks.
At Bellava MedAesthetics & Plastic Surgery Center, James R. Lyons, MD, is a gifted board-certified Westchester plastic surgeon with over twenty years of experience who specializes in both the full tummy tuck and mini tummy tuck and has carried out thousands of these procedures that can be combined with SlimLipo laser liposuction for an amazing result. SlimLipo™ Laser Liposuction
If you have a tummy that requires fat removal with minimal skin tightening, SlimLipo may be right for you. SlimLipo from Palomar Medical uses biolysis to liquefy fat before its removal. Liquefying fat helps to remove it in a much more even and precise manner than traditional liposuction, which means the body sculpting of specific areas can be done much more easily and with more accurate results. Other common areas treated with SlimLipo laser liposuction include the back, buttocks, chin, neck, love handles, thighs and upper arms. SlimLipo is performed under local anesthesia, which minimizes medical risks, speeds recovery time and minimizes the costs usually associated with traditional liposuction. Go here to read more about SlimLipo.
At Bellava Dr. Lyons is a leading expert in laser body sculpting, renowned for both his artistic vision and medical expertise. He often uses Bellava’s Joint Commission Accredited medical suite in Bedford Hills, NY, to teach other doctors referred by Palomar Medical SlimLipo techniques. Go here to read more about Dr. Lyons.
CoolSculpting is a great choice for patients who are interested ONLY in a nonsurgical procedure to get rid of fat in the tummy area—there’s no anesthesia, no scarring and no downtime! Bear in mind that with CoolSculpting your goal should be fat removal ONLY without any skin tightening.
Nonsurgical FDA-cleared Coolsculpting works by killing fat cells below the skin through a special “freezing” mechanism without damaging your healthy skin. In the weeks and months following treatment, the targeted fat cells are naturally eliminated from your body. Because treatment is targeted, it is an effective way to help reduce areas that resist diet and exercise. Other popular areas of treatment include love handles and flanks.
